Final: Colgate 80, Syracuse 68

Second half

Torrence lobs one up to Edwards, who slams it home to bring the Orange within 11.

Tucker Richardson with the capper: He’s got a career-high 27 points, and Colgate is up to 18 3s, the same number it hit in last season’s win — at a much more efficient clip.

One more 3 for Moffitt.

Colgate tied a school record with 19 3s.

3:28 remaining: Colgate 74, Syracuse 58

Benny Williams tries to slip a pass behind the back to Symir Torrence, who wasn’t anticipating that. It rolls out of bounds.

Williams has a career-high 15 points to go with seven rebounds, but the Orange is a mess.

Last year’s loss to Colgate meant a bad season.

We’ll see what this loss will do.

5:43 remaining: 74, Syacuse 56

Mintz cuts the deficit to 12 again, but Lynch-Daniels sinks the Raiders’ 16th 3-pointer of the game.

Colgate quickly hits its 17th 3. The Riaders have the lead back up to 18, once again answering SU’s brief spark. Williams misses a lay-up.

7:23 remaining: Colgate 68, Syracuse 52

Syracuse calls its final timeout with 9:33 remaining in the second half.

The Orange has climbed within 12, but Colgate beats the press with a full-court pass to Richardson, who finishes plus the foul on Mintz.

Every time SU has tried to get this lead down to single digits, Colgate has answered. At that time, Records can’t handle the pass. Syracuse, trailing by 12 after the basket by Torrence, can’t get closer on the next possession after a missed 3 by Girard.

We’re coming up the under-8 timeout, Syracuse turns it over. Records has four-straight points, reading the miss by Chandler and putting it right up and in.

10:10 remaining: Colgate 62, Syracuse 48

Judah Mintz with a nice mid-range jumper Moffatt had a good look at another 3. He didn’t finish, but the open looks like that is precisely why Syracuse is in the position it is in.

Syracuse breaks out the pressure defense, trapping the corner, but Colgate is able to settle into its offense. A little high-low leads to a bucket by Sam Thomson.

Mintz is starting to come alive offensively. He shakes his defender and drains a 3.

But Moffatt can silence the crowd. That’s 15(!) 3s for the Raiders. It truly is déjà vu. A year after sinking 18 3s in a historic win at Syracuse, Colgate is 15-for-29 from distance.

14:14 remaining: Colgate 57, Syracuse 39

Ryan Moffatt opened the second half with Colgate’s 12th 3 of the night.

Judah Mintz then gets into the lane and finishes at the rim.

Colgate has not won back-to-back games against Syracuse since the early ’60s (1960-61 and 1961-62 seasons).

Girard hits a 3, but then misses a lay-up in close off a turnover.

Moffatt sinks another 3, and just like that, Colgate is up to 13 made 3s and what could have been a single-digit deficit is back where it has been most of the game.

Colgate with two more baskets, including Richardson’s sixth 3-pointer. The Raiders have their largest lead of the night.

Richardson’s six 3s are a career high.

Halftime: Colgate 44, Syracuse 30

It’s been a repeat of last year’s stunner through 20 minutes in the JMA Wireless Dome.

The Orange opened in man-to-man defense, then switched to its zone. Neither has been good enough to keep Colgate’s shooters from getting their fill from the perimeter.

The Raiders made 11 3s in the first half, led by Tucker Richardson’s 19-point effort on 5-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc.

Joe Girard and Benny Williams led the Orange with nine points apiece. SU’s point combo of Judah Mintz and Symir Torrence are a combined 2-for-11 with four assists and three turnovers.

Colgate outrebounded Syracuse 21-19.

First half

1:05 remaining: Colgate 44, Syracuse 27

Edwards steps out of bounds with the ball on the baseline. The Orange is 9-for-25 from the field in the first half

Benny Williams hits a 3, and he’s up to nine points. Richardson answers at the other end.

Then Richardson drains two more from deep. Colgate has built a 17-point lead, its largest of the game.

Tucker Richardson had 19 points on 5-of-7 shooting from 3.

3:58 remaining: Colgate 35, Syracuse 24

Benny Williams takes the space Colgate’s defense provided and sinks the 15-footer. He and Girard lead SU with six points apiece. Girard is the only SU player to connect from 3 until Mintz hits one to keep the deficit at 12.

Earlier, Richardson sinks Colgate’s eighth 3-pointer of the first half. The Raiders are 8-for-17 from distance.

It’s been a quiet half for Jesse Edwards, but he gets the ball in the paint and fights his way to the basket on a late double-team to draw the foul and earn a trip to the line.

Torrence tries to lob one up to Williams but is off the mark.

7:02 remaining: Colgate 30, Syracuse 18

We’ve had a few cheeky displays referencing Jim Boeheim’s win total in the crowd. The bottom graphic on the YES Network is going by the book, saying Boeheim is one win shy of 1,000.

Girard lines up and 3, and Benny Williams gets a putback off a miss by Symir Torrence.

Lynch-Daniels hit his second 3 of the half, then Chandler Bakers connected from deep to push the lead back up to eight. Quadir Copeland couldn’t close out in time.

Colgate is up to five made 3s on the night. Torrence is 0-for-4 and has a chat with Boeheim on the sideline as Mintz checks into the game.

Copeland is too strong off the glass, but Mounir Hima is there to collect the miss and slam it home.

At the other end, another 3 by the Raiders: Baker again.

Then it’s Richardson off the offensive rebound sinking Colgate’s seventh 3 of the half.

12:09 remaining: Colgate 18, Syracuse 9

Ryan Moffatt with a nice move in the paint. He’s got range too, lining up a transition 3 that doesn’t drop. Colgate then stretched its lead to six on the putback by Keegan Records.

Colgate has gotten some friendly rolls on the rim here in the first half.

Beautiful back-door cut and layup by the Raiders leads to a timeout by Jim Boeheim.

Colgate is on a 16-4 run.

15:08 remaining: Colgate 8, Syracuse 5

Syracuse opens up in man-to-man defense. After a quick bucket by Judah Mintz off the opening tip, the Orange missed its next four shots.

Colgate knots the score at the line before a big Jesse Edwards block at the rim leads to a transition 3 by Joe Girard III.

Tucker Richardson gets a soft bounce on a 3, then Oliver Lynch-Daniels buries a 3.

Syracuse and Colgate are both 2-for-8 in the early stages of this one.

Colgate, again, is taking a ton of 3s. Seven of its eight shots have come from beyond the arc.
