The College Football Playoffs, New Year’s Six and the entire 2022-23 bowl schedule were released Sunday, and the flurry of announcements set in motion the beginning of the sport’s postseason. The CFP was short on controversy as Georgia, Michigan and TCU all held their order from last week’s CFP Rankings with Ohio State sliding into the playoff field after USC’s loss to Utah in the Pac-12 Championship Game. Although Alabama fans and coach Nick Saban put in plenty of work to make a case for the Crimson Tide, the CFP Selection Committee stuck to its guidelines.
The CFP semifinal matchups bring tons of intrigue as Ohio State now has new life following the Michigan loss and can boast a roster just as talented as undefeated Georgia when the two blue bloods clash at the Peach Bowl in Atlanta. The other semifinal, the Fiesta Bowl, will feature Michigan trying to get its first-ever playoff win against a TCU program that is the 14th program to appear in the event over its first nine iterations.
Outside of the playoffs, there is still tons to get excited about as we look ahead to bowl season. Tulane is playing in its biggest bowl game since the 1939 season facing USC in the Cotton Bowl. There’s an all-orange Orange Bowl on deck with Clemson and Tennessee. The Rose Bowl could be yet another instant classic with Utah going head-to-head against Penn State.
There’s also great stories and fun matchups throughout the bowl schedule that will require your attention. Steve Sarkisian should have Texas tuned up and ready to go for a potential shootout against Washington in the Alamo Bowl. Florida State coach Mike Norvell is also bowling for the first time since he took over the Seminoles, and for their bowl matchup, they have been slotted opposite Oklahoma at the end of Year 1 with Brent Venables.
CBS Sports was with you all throughout Sunday as the College Football Playoff and bowl schedule were finalized and announced. Check out the full slate in the tables below and catch up on our live analysis as the games were announced further down the page.
